Reasons Why You Should Not Serve God

Why should you serve God?Many people today will offer reasons why they are not serving God and maybe even reasons why they think other people should not serve God. But how good are these reasons?

Consider some reasons people sometimes offer for not serving God.

Some people say they are “not sure the Bible is true.” But Romans 10.17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” So the Bible has within it all the evidence any honest person needs to convince him to believe that it is true. If you have doubts about the Bible, there is no need to continue doubting. The evidence is available in the Scriptures. Study the Bible evidence with an honest heart and see for yourself.

Other people do not serve God because they do not believe they can live the life of a Christian – they think they could never remain faithful. But consider Philippians 4:13 which says: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” When you become a child of God, if you are really sincerely determined to serve Him, His word will provide you with all the guidance and strength you need.

Then there are those who think that “the Bible is just too strict.” They don’t serve God because they are not willing make the sacrifices that the gospel requires. These people need to understand Matthew 22:37 – “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” When people learn to appreciate all that God has done for them, then they will begin to really love Him instead of loving themselves. Then they will realize that God’s way is really best and they will be willing to give up their selfish pleasures.

Finally, some people plan to serve God later, but not today. These people need to realize that there may not be a “later.” James 4:14 says, “Ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.” 2 Corinthians 6:2 says: “… behold, now is the day of salvation.

Honestly now, is there really any good reason for not serving God?
