Do Demons Have More Faith than People?

Demons have more faith than many peopleMany people think demons are evil because they do not believe in God. But demons have more faith than many people do, including some who claim to believe in God. What do the devil and his servants believe?

Demons in the Bible were servants of Satan who tempted and tormented people. Yet many people, who would never want to be like the demons, nevertheless in some ways have less spiritual understanding and faith than demons do. Consider some things that demons understand and believe.

Belief in God

James 2:19 – You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe – and tremble! So demons have more faith than atheists or agnostics. Even demons believe in God.

Belief in Just One God

James 2:19 – They believe there is one God. So demons have more faith than idol worshipers who believe in many gods. They know there is just one true God, and they know who that God is.

Belief in Jesus

Luke 4:41 – When Jesus was casting out demons, they cried out, “You are the Christ, the Son of God!” Jesus did not allow them to speak, for they knew that He was the Christ.

So demons have more faith than infidels or skeptics who deny or doubt that Jesus was the Son of God. They have more faith than modernists who believe Jesus was a mere man. Even demons believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.

(Mark 1:24; 3:11)

Belief in the God’s Authority

Luke 8:31 – Demons begged Jesus that He would not command them to go into the abyss.

So the demons knew that Jesus had the authority to command them and they would have to obey. So demons have more faith than people who doubt or deny the power of God’s word. They knew Jesus has power they must obey.

Belief in Punishment after This Life

Luke 8:31 – The demons knew Jesus had power to command them to go into the abyss.

Matthew 8:29 – They cried out to Jesus, “Have You come to torment us before the time?”

Unlike some modern religious cults, demons believe in the existence of hell and punishment after this life. They tremble at the prospect (James 2:19).

Belief in Obedience

James 2:19 – Demons believe in God, yet they tremble because they know they stand condemned. If people are saved by “faith alone” as many denominations teach, why aren’t the demons saved?

James 2:20 – But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

James 2:24 – You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

Saving faith in the Bible is always obedient faith. Demons are not saved because their faith does not lead them to obey. Faith without works is dead, so neither we nor demons can be saved by faith only.

So demons have more faith than many modern denominationalists. They know that, to be saved, a person’s faith must lead to obedience. Demons are condemned for lack of obedience.

What about your faith and mine? Do we have faith that God will save those who truly obey? If so, have you done what God says you must to be saved?

Mark 16:16 – He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
