The
Bible describes God as good. His creation was good till people sinned. He gives
good gifts to sustain life. He blesses us with family and loved ones. He gives
the Bible to guide us and explain the purpose of life. And He offers the hope of
a better life in heaven with none of this life's problems.
Deuteronomy 26:11 – You shall rejoice in every good thing which the Lord your God has given to you and your house. The Bible tells us to rejoice that God is good. So consider:
1:31 – God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.
2:9 – Out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. God richly supplied all man’s needs.
2:18 – God saw something that was “not good”: man was alone. So God made a helper.
In our original state, people had rich blessings even beyond their needs. God was good. Today face hardships and problems, but it was not that way in the beginning. Before people sinned, conditions were happy and trouble-free. God is good.
Although we have problems since sin entered the world, yet we have many blessings.
Ecclesiastes 3:13 – … every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor – it is the gift of God.
Acts 14:17 – God does us good, giving food, rain, and fruitful seasons.
Consider how much we depend on things beyond our control for even our basic necessities. What would happen if we did not have air to breathe, water to drink, and sunshine and soil to grow food? Who gives these? Often we take them for granted. God is good.
Deuteronomy 30:9 – The Lord your God will make you abound in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body … for good.
Proverbs 19:14 – A prudent wife is from the Lord. God blessed us with families.
True, people have problems at times because we live in a sin-cursed world. But this is not God’s fault. God gave us people as a blessing. To the extent other people benefit us, that is the goodness of God.
Hebrews 6:5 – You have tasted the good word of God.
Psalm 119:105 – God’s word is a lamp to our feet and light to our path.
Consider how confused many people in our society are about the right way to live. They face major decisions about right and wrong, but most people don’t know the answers or reject them. The Bible has the answers, and we can know them if we study diligently. God is good.
2 Thessalonians 1:11 – Paul prayed that God would fulfill in them all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 – Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man's all.
People everywhere find life meaningless and empty because they pursue the wrong goals. Those who serve God have found the true meaning and purpose of life. God is good.
God blesses His people in this life but then with eternal life in Heaven with Him.
2 Thessalonians 2:16 – Jesus and our Father have loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace.
1 Peter 1:3,4 – We have an inheritance, incorruptible, undefiled, reserved in heaven.
Revelation 21:3,4 – God will wipe away all tears. There will be no death, sorrow, pain, or crying. The problems caused by sin will not be found there.
Surely this eternal reward demonstrates the goodness of God.
Ezra 8:22 – The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him…
Are you faithfully seeking and following God? If not,
Romans 2:4 – The goodness of God leads you to repentance. God has offered you richly every blessing you could need in this life and eternal life afterward. Will you repent and accept His goodness?
